Sound off!

It’s ‘Invasion of the Body Snatchers’ in the commissioner’s office! Mauro Cantalamessa is starting to sound like Dan Polivka with his pandering to the selfish impulses of the “taxpayer.” Most of us wouldn’t even notice that tiny WRTA tax if it were implemented, and most would welcome it if it paid for a service for our fellow residents. Maybe Mauro is living in fear of a mythological Republican candidate who hasn’t even announced a run yet. Sad.

I didn’t think I’d ever find Commissioner Frenchko a sympathetic figure, but the immaturity of our “leaders” has overcome logic. Commissioners Cantalamessa and Fuda run the county like a junior high sorority, which would just be a mildly entertaining sideshow, had it not led to the death of public transportation in Trumbull County. Niki was mean to them, so we lose bus service. Economic development and service to taxpayers take a back seat to Mauro’s and Frank’s wounded egos.

Local attorney Jeff Goodman was correct a few years ago when he said Trumbull Commissioner Mauro Cantalamessa “makes a great chicken parm but knows nothing about running a county-wide transit system.” Yes, Cantalamessa doesn’t know anything about running one, but he should have let the voters decide on accepting WRTA. Maybe if any member of Mauro’s family needed public transit he would have done the right thing.

Dan Polivka again is contesting the election won by Niki Frenchko. Sound familiar? He has spent more time and energy on this total waste of money than he did on anything while he was in office. He should just give it up, stop looking for media coverage and find a real job.

Rep. Mike Loychik co-sponsored HB 248 and the bill is now a national joke. Recently viewers of late-night television were amused by a clip from a hearing on HB 248 where a medical professional falsely claims COVID-19 vaccines contained magnetic particles that magnetized her body and the vaccine interfaces with 5G. Hilarious but dangerous because, if put into law, it would prohibit hospitals and medical facilities from practicing standard infection control measures for staff.

A Courthouse Square ice rink is a great idea. We had a great time with our children and friends skating there years ago. Before committing, council should visit the new Jewish Community Center rink. It’s made of slick, synthetic material needing no refrigeration! A synthetic rink also could be used in warmer months without expensive maintenance costs and without noisy, unsightly refrigeration equipment. It may or may not be pricier, but it would save tax money in the long-run.

I watched a Newton Falls Council meeting recently. It’s apparent council and the mayor lack leadership skills to move the town forward. There’s no talk of a game plan, vision or sense of direction. The bar is set low. Their only goal is to remove Councilwoman Sandra Breymaier. What’s next? What vision are they offering the community that we can grab onto? What’s the next irrelevant cause they will pursue with no benefit to the village or township?

“Juneteenth” is a silly name for an unnecessary federal holiday. I’ll bet most politicians who voted for it were afraid not to vote for it. What’s next? A “George Floyd” federal holiday? Who would dare vote against it?

I’m concerned about Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Why hasn’t she removed Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-California, from House Intelligence Committee after his connection with a Chinese spy, Fang Fang? Or Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minnesota, from the House Foreign Affairs Committee after her tweets equating America and Israel with Taliban and Hamas? Is Nancy’s political party more important than America? Fox News host Tucker Carlson and Life, Liberty and Levin are in-depth informative sources on these and other topics going on.
