Prosecute man who struck, killed woman

DEAR EDITOR:

On April 8, 2019, William F. Dally of Phalanx Mills Herner Road in Southington got into his truck and drove down Helsey-Fusselman Road, where, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol reports, he struck and killed Kathleen Westenfelder as she walked along the berm of the road. According to the state patrol reports, he admitted to officers that he consumed alcohol and multiple medications before the crash.

When he smashed into her, she was sent flying from the berm, across a ditch and into a field. Reports show that William Dally admitted to investigating officers from the Ohio Highway Patrol there was no traffic near enough that he could not avoid hitting her. According to official reports, he showed “strong signs of impairment. His eyes were bloodshot and glossy in appearance and he had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage. … His speech was slurred and he performed poorly during standardized field sobriety testing.”

Witness reports all indicated that Dally did nothing to avoid smashing into her with his truck.

Now, more than 18 months later, he remains free and is charged with only a misdemeanor crime in Newton Falls Municipal Court. The citizens of Trumbull County who trust prosecutors with preserving the law have been in danger of this man repeating his act on other pedestrians or other drivers!

I believe William Dally should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and, if convicted, be put in prison for the maximum sentence possible.
