Support Bazetta fire levy on March 17

I am writing to show my support for the Bazetta Township Fire Department replacement levy and to urge Bazetta Township residents to vote for this levy March 17.

This is a replacement levy, which means there will be an increase in taxes, but for a good cause. This 4-mill continuous levy was originally passed in 1994 and has never been replaced. This levy funds about 48 percent of the total fire department budget. These funds provide for personnel, apparatus, equipment, supplies, buildings and facilities — all crucial to the life and safety of the township residents and those who work or pass through our township.

As a 35-plus year resident of Bazetta Township, I see a continued presence by our fire department within the community and not just during emergency situations. They are present at community athletic events, monitor and advise schools and churches for fire and tornado drills, give away and install smoke alarms to residents, annually participate in the Mosquito Lake Safety Day, provided a safe delivery option for packages during the holidays, and facilitated a Stop the Bleed training program for area churches. Most notably, they have brought in over $2 million in grants for supplemental training and equipment.

I’m grateful for the outstanding leadership and professionalism of the Bazetta Fire Department. They are continuously working and training to be the best that they can be to protect both life and property in Bazetta Township. Reach out to them on the best or worst day of your life, and you can count on them to be there.

Please help them to continue to provide the service we’ve come to know and expect by joining me in voting “yes” for the 4-mill replacement levy on March 17. Thank you.
