Sound off!

Glad to see so many people interested in the Niles school board. However, with so many running, any chance of a forum to hear the candidates’ views? Perhaps a local non-political community organization could facilitate this.

Election season is upon us and campaign signs are popping up everywhere. This is freedom of speech. If you destroy or steal your opponents’ signs, then shame on you. Are you afraid of a little competition? What does that say about your character? Would the constituents want you representing them? Or don’t you care about being an upstanding citizen? Don’t you run for office to make your community a better place and so our next generation can look up to you?

Sad that the same people waving strike signs nationwide are the same people who begged, cried and prayed 10 years ago when GM was going belly up to save their jobs. Their prayers were answered when Obama took millions of taxpayer dollars (whether you supported GM products or not), went against our Constitution and bailed out a private corporation. Keep biting the hand that feeds you and soon we will become a right-to-work state.

It’s amazing that hardly any local politicians have visited the strikers at the GM Lordstown complex. They show up for endorsement meetings to pay lip service to the union or use “Save Lordstown” avatars on social media but are missing in action when it comes to showing real support. I hope the workers remember this.

After all the news about city employees taking illegal breaks duing their work shift, why are employees still using city vehicles for personal business? City vehicles for bank runs, doing grocery shopping, etc. The vehicles are for work-related business, not personal business. Do your shopping, etc., in your personal vehicles — not vehicles we city taxpayers are paying for!

Who doesn’t feel angst and sorrow at the death or injury of a cyclist on a roadway? A roadway also accommodates 2-ton vehicles, and many roads don’t have a shoulder to accommodate cyclists or runners. At taxpayer expense, there are bike trails, parks and tracks to accommodate slower and less visible travelers. Careless drivers? What about distracted cyclists enjoying goats, a runner with headphones, a deer? I feel as much angst and sorrow for the motorist who accidentally ran into the traveler. Common sense dictates: Stay off the roads!

The “spy’s” (whistle blower’s) information proved absolutely correct when the White House finally released the transcript. But where has this transcript of the mob-like shakedown of the Ukraine been? It was moved in violation of an executive order into a “covert operations” file. It’s always the cover-up that seals the deal! Impeach!

Donald Trump supporters call it a witch hunt. I strongly disagree with that. But this is a new ball game. We have a president coercing a foreign government to investigate his chief political opponent. I think that is obviously abuse of executive power. Be honest with yourselves. Our country’s laws and government are at stake.

I have never before watched my fellow Americans tear a man and his family to pieces as they have with our president, Donald Trump. Every day this man has been besieged by totally unsubstantiated attacks since before even his inauguration. The press and the Democratic Party are behind all allegations. Why isn’t Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama or, for that matter, Joe Biden investigated by Congress or the press? Many Americans and I would like to know.
