Niles leaders need to think about residents
This falls under the category of “You can’t make this stuff up.”
Who in their right mind would negotiate a contract that states that the water department doesn’t work weekends? The city let a water main break run for more than 24 hours because it’s against the contract to call in workers to fix it on a weekend unless it’s designated an “emergency.”
How many gallons of water were wasted? In a perfect world water mains would only break between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Unfortunately we don’t live in a perfect world. I lay this issue at the feet of the mayor and city council for ever accepting this deal. What’s next? The power department or police and fire not responding on weekends? I realize that may be a little silly to most, except in Niles.
When the mayor and city council negotiate the next contract, how about for a change, they put the needs of the citizens of Niles first before anything else.
