Composting and pine boxes preferable

DEAR EDITOR:

Your May 16 editorial titled “Composting humans is going too far” made me think of my grandmother. She used to tell us to bury her in a pine box, but give her flowers while she was alive. We wanted her to have the best, and so a typical funeral with the embalming fluid and casket spray of roses was chosen. I think she was right. Why do we fill our corpses with chemicals, place ourselves in boxes that won’t biodegrade and cover them with concrete bunkers? Idiocy.
