Trump unknowingly manipulated by others
Watching the Joe Scarborough show, I heard a very disturbing comment on Jan. 10, 2019. Michael Steele, a former chairman of the Republican party said, “Steve Bannon and Reince Priebus warned us that this president was coming in to destroy institutions, individuals and things that we consider vital to the structure of this Republic.” Michael heard this even before the president was sworn in. That comment makes your mind spin, when you consider the president’s behavior in the past two years.
When first hearing the comment, I rationalized. Michael is African American and Republican. Perhaps he is embarrassed by the president’s behavior. He’s trying to make the president appear tactical and strategic. In other words, he is trying to convince folks that the president knows what he’s doing. Then, the very next day, the New York Times dropped a bomb. In 2017, after the firing of James Comey, the FBI investigated the president and concluded that the president had been knowingly or unknowingly working on behalf of Russia against American interest.
Whatever your position is, you can’t deny the fact that the president’s policies are working against American interest. Russia rejoices when they hear the name-calling. They rejoice to see intensifying ethnic divisiveness. They rejoice when they see our tariff skirmishes with China and others. They rejoice to see America’s allies being alienated. And they rejoice when they see our political parties fighting over a wall.
This nation is so bogged down in mess that people don’t know what to believe. In reading the Tribune Chronicle opinion section, one writer was concerned that the president was unfairly picked on because he brings to the presidency his Russian influences and his corny real estate style of dealing with political issues. He is not the only president that has been under intense scrutiny. What about the 44th president? How would you liked to be picked on because of your skin color?
What is it going to take to put this nation back on track?
