Failing report card when it comes to work

DEAR EDITOR:

In my last letter, titled “Success I” I wrote about success on an individual level. This is “Success II” about success on a national level.

One measure of our success is our willingness and ability to work; unfortunately, our government has decided that welfare is more important than work and many Americans have bought into that philosophy.

I do believe there is a need for some sort of a safety net, but there is no way 46 percent of Americans should be on some kind of government assistance. We fail the work test.

The next measure of national success is on a personal level. I cannot remember a time when so many people refused to take responsibility for their actions, especially politicians. Whatever happens in their lives or the life of our country is not their fault. They would much rather protest something or whine about it, rather than get a job. We have become a nation of whiners instead of doers. Consequently, we fail the personal success test.

Finally, let’s look at the spiritual success of our country. I would have never believed a country could have turned its back on God and profess to be Christian as it has on our heavenly father. We even put “In God We Trust” on our money. How is that for talking the talk but not walking the walk? We have turned to other gods. Money, technology, sexual pleasure and many others. Does your god have a son named Jesus? Many Americans are worshipping the wrong god.

In the end, we fail the most crucial test of all. We fail spiritually.

Not a very good success report card and one that will take a major effort to change, but if any country in history can change it, America can. I pray that it will.
