Know a community star? Nominate him or her today
We are so blessed to be part of a community that is home to so many caring and generous souls who continue to give, never expecting anything in return.
We, along with the Trumbull 100 organization, want to recognize and pay homage to these fine members of our community as part of the annual Trumbull County Community Stars program.
Unfortunately, the event, like so many others, has been on hiatus because of the continuing pandemic. This year, however, we hope to recognize the 20th class of Community Stars, with a planned awards dinner in April, when we intend to honor winners from 2020 as well as 2022. After seeking nominees in 2021, the program never went forward due to surging COVID-19 numbers.
Community Stars gives recognition to the brightest examples of Trumbull County community service. It honors those who consistently go above and beyond to make a measurable impact in the lives of others, serve their neighbors and serve their community.
The 2020 winners were Cindy Angelo of Warren, Beverly Gartland of Warren, Basil and Mary Lou Jarrett of Cortland, Pastor George Johnson of Warren, Virginia Logan of Kinsman, Terry Mascioli of Cortland, Ellie Monchak and Jean Potashnik, both of Warren, John Payiavlas of Warren, John Streitferdt of Warren and Carole Wiley of Cortland.
Winners were chosen, but the banquet never went forward.
Then, nominees were sought last year, but the winners were never selected after the program was canceled due to COVID-19. Those nominees will be considered along with new nominees, and, as usual, 10 winners will be chosen by a panel of judges.
If you know someone who fits this description — perhaps from a local civic group, from your place of worship or any other community involvement — now is your chance to nominate them for this wonderful honor.
Nominations can be made by filling out the form that will run periodically in the Tribune Chronicle and mailing it to Tribune Chronicle, c/o Sue Shafer, 240 Franklin St. SE, Warren, OH 44483. Submissions also can be emailed to Shafer at firstname.lastname@example.org or by logging on to www.tribtoday.com and clicking on the “Submit News” button. There is a category for Community Stars.
Nominations should include an explanation of what makes the nominee stand out and a description of what they do. A person can be nominated more than once, but they can win only one time.
We urge you to not delay. The deadline for nominations is Jan. 31.
