Householder lost Ohioans’ trust; remove him now
Since he was arrested last week in connection with a $60 million bribery scheme, Ohio House of Representatives Speaker Larry Householder has resisted calls that he step down from the post. That leaves lawmakers no choice but to remove him.
Though there are questions about the mechanics of replacing Householder, there are at least four ways House members could be called into session to deal with the matter. Once in the Statehouse, it would require a vote of only 50 representatives to make the change.
State officials already have been discussing who to install as speaker, according to The Associated Press.
As soon as a consensus is reached — this week, we hope — lawmakers should give Householder the boot. He no longer has the trust of Ohioans.
