Do your civic duty and head to polls today

When you head to the polls today, you won’t see a race for president, statewide issues or even countywide seats.

But that doesn’t mean this election isn’t important.

In fact, it’s critically important in terms of local control and grassroots government.

Sadly, elections officials are predicting a pitifully low turnout, and that’s puzzling to us because this is the very election when decisions are made about local officials and local tax issues. These are the people who will decide on things like how much money to spend on paving your streets, what curriculum should be taught in your child’s school district and how many police officers are needed to help keep your neighborhood safe.

Isn’t that enough reason to make sure you get out to the polls tomorrow and vote?

Please take your civic duty seriously.

The polls are open today from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Then after the polls close, visit www.tribtoday.com and click “latest news” for updates throughout the evening as votes are counted on the local races, issues and options. And, of course, read Wednesday’s print edition for results.
