Barbara Giovannone 1941-2025

CORTLAND — Barbara Phillips “Barb” Giovannone passed away on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2025, with her family by her side, at her residence in Cortland, Ohio, following a short battle with cancer.

Barb was born on Feb. 12, 1941, in Warren, Ohio, a daughter of Alex Phillips and Barbara Farkas-Phillips.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Dorothy Phillips and Bette Phillips-Frenchko. Barb was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Giovannone, in 1967; and her beloved granddaughter, Sierra Giovannone-Roberts, in 2014.

Barb is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Alex and Winnie Phillips of Warren; and her three daughters, Marcia Giovannone-Scott of Lordstown, Beth Giovannone of Apple Valley, Minnesota, and Amy Jo Giovannone of Niles; grandchildren, Jennifer Rae Scott, Isaac “Ramsey” Scott III, Emma Rae (Connor) Wolf and Logan Bruce; her great-grandchildren, Alex Scott, Isaac Ramsey Scott IV, Berkley and Fulton Wolf, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Barb was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, as well as ETI Technical College in Niles, having received her paralegal degree, which she utilized to secure a second career once she retired. After retiring from Packard Electric, Barb worked for the Howland Police Department for 15 years and became a confidant and a second mother to many.

Barb worked tirelessly to own a nice home and to provide a comfortable life for herself and children. She also knew how to enjoy life by spending time with her friends — dancing, camping and traveling often.

Barb wished for no calling hours; instead, she requested a celebration of life party for those who can attend. Barb’s celebration of life will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, at Buena Vista Cafe and restaurant, 1305 Buena Vista Ave. NE, Warren, OH 44483.
