Dorothy E. Boles 1934-2025

SARASOTA, Fla. — Dorothy Elizabeth “Dottie” Boles, 91, beloved daughter, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully, Sunday evening, July 13, 2025, at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.

Dottie was born June 25, 1934, in Hubbard, the daughter of Frank and Helen E. Vargo Hamm. In 1935, her family moved to Niles, where Dottie was raised and lived for the next 88 years before moving to Sarasota, Florida, in July 2023.

Dottie cherished living in Niles and graduated from Niles McKinley High School in 1952. She was a member of the cheerleading squad during her junior and senior years, and served as a lifeguard at the Niles Waddell Swimming Pool during those same summers.

With her parents, she was a member of the Niles South Side Presbyterian Church.

Dottie married Robert Stanley Boles on Aug. 4, 1956, and he preceded her in death in 2004.

She is survived by her three children, Diana and Edward Bernard of Traverse City, Michigan, and their children, Blake and Mara Bernard; Linda Boles and Jack Nirenberg of Sarasota, Florida; and Bob and Amy Boles of Huntsville, Alabama, and their daughters, Elaine and Kate Boles. This gave Dottie four beautiful grandchildren.

Dottie enjoyed bowling, tennis, golf and shopping.

She retired from Taylor Steel Company in 1999 after a wonderful, dedicated career as the company secretary and receptionist.

In her retirement years, Dottie enjoyed aquatic exercising at the Youngstown Jewish Community Center and could often be spotted hot-rodding around town in her white Solara convertible.

At Dottie’s request, she will be entombed privately in Pineview Cemetery Mausoleum in Warren.

A celebration of life will be at noon Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Vernon’s Cafe, Niles.

In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made to a local food bank or the donor’s favorite charity.

Rest in peace, “Dottie.” Your love, compassion and generosity will continue to guide and inspire us all.
