John L. Brandon Sr. 1940-2025

SOUTHINGTON — John Leroy Brandon Sr., 85, of Southington, peacefully passed away Friday, May 23, 2025, at home with family at his side.

He was born Feb. 20, 1940, in Indiana, Pa., son of Leroy and Hazel Cunningham Brandon.

John graduated in 1957 from the Indiana Joint High School Program, where he studied Machine Operation curriculum, John utilized this knowledge working for General Motors retiring as the Supervisor of the Tool and Die Department after 35 years — never missing a single day.

He was a lifetime Mason Shriner and Grotto member, and was committed to their principles of Faith in God, Brotherly love and personal responsibility. John was also a member of the Methodist Church.

He was a humble, quiet, richly blessed man who cherished the time he spent with family, especially the hunting trips and holidays. John was an avid gardener who always shared the fruits of his labor with family and friends. In his younger years, he also enjoyed bowling and golfing.

John’s greatest love was for his wife of 63.5 years Nancy, who he has missed every day since her passing on Feb. 10, 2024.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Nancy Jean Brandon; his parents, Leroy and Hazel Brandon; his sister Helen Louise Harkleroad and two grandsons.

Left to cherish his memory are his four children, John (Anita) Brandon Jr., Todd (Donna) Brandon, Susan (Scott) Shaffer and Julie (Phil) Wolfe; seven grandchildren, Tiffany Brandon, Lindsay (Brad) Collins, Justin Brandon, Zachary Brandon, Nancy Wolfe, Cassidy Shaffer and Nathan Wolfe; a step-granddaughter, Amanda Campbell; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Janet (Ron) Cramer; brother, Gilbert (Virginia) Brandon and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A private ceremony will take place with Pastor Jim George officiating. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
