Barbara K. Wilson 1935-2025

NILES — Barbara “Tinky” Wilson, 89, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Saturday, May 3, 2025.

Barbara was born on Nov. 8, 1935, in Youngstown, the daughter of Mable Mae White-Rupright and Lawrence W. Burns.

Tinky graduated from Niles McKinley High School, Class of 1953. She was a proud Red Dragon. The friendships she made while attending Niles McKinley carried on throughout her lifetime. Barb never missed a class reunion or gathering of her classmates. She always had a story to tell about her cherished school days.

Tinky grew up on the south side of Niles with her best friend, Rita Hewitt. To this day, they had a standing hair appointment followed by lunch and sometimes shopping and then they would talk for an hour in the car before she got out.

On Oct. 2, 1956, she married her classmate and love of her life, Raymond Wilson. She spent 68 years loving and caring for him. They bought their first home on Poplar Street in Girard, where she again made lifelong friendships.

In 1983, Raymond’s career took them to Lebanon, Pa.; and they again made friendships that she continued till the end. In 1996, Raymond retired and they returned to their hometown of Niles, to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Tinky’s friendships meant the world to her. For the past 20 years, she and Raymond met with a group of friends for lunch and a movie every Wednesday. She was an avid Buckeyes fan and religiously watched every game while talking and texting with her only brother, Bill, who lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She liked to craft, play bingo, go to the casino and shop for clothing. She was always put together and never had a hair out of place. Complete strangers would stop to tell her how nice she looked. From her earrings to her shoes and purse — every outfit matched perfectly.

Each morning, she shared a piece of peanut butter toast with her furry companion, Barkley, and read every single obituary. She had genuine compassion for each family who lost loved ones whether she knew them or not. I hope when you read about this incredible woman you take a moment to honor her life. She was a bright shining light in a sometimes-dark world and will be missed by many.

She leaves behind her husband, Raymond Wilson; a son, Rick A. Wilson of Farrell, Pa.; a daughter, Jill Wilson of Niles, whom she and Raymond resided with for the past year; grandchildren, Danielle (Patrick) Logan of Niles, Allison (Ricky) Brittain of Georgia, and Mackenzie Hogan and Tanner Hogan, both of Columbus; her cherished great-granddaughter, Harper Brittain; as well as nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Bill Adaway.

Cremation has taken place. In honor of her wishes, there will be no services.
