Virginia M. Whitacre 1928-2024
BAZETTA — Virginia Muresan Whitacre, 96, passed away Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024, and is now with her Lord and Savior.
Virginia was born Feb. 26, 1928, in Bazetta, the 11th of 13 children of immigrant parents from Romania, John and Maria Arva Muresan.
She graduated from Champion High School in 1945 and was employed at GM Packard Electric for over 44 years. She was a lifelong active member of Wildare Church, where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was involved in many ministries including as a member of the Missionary Ladies, work as a Sunday school teacher, a youth leader and financial secretary. She also helped prepare many funeral dinners.
Virginia enjoyed traveling with many friends and family members to locations including 49 states, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Italy, Romania, Egypt and Israel. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, bowling, golfing and working jigsaw puzzles, even at age 96.
Virginia is survived by her son, Jeffrey (Donna) Whitacre of Bristolville; granddaughter, Lindsay (Eric) Kovach of Warren; grandson, Jonathan (Kirsten) Whitacre of Garden City, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Erika and Ryan Kovach, and Darius and Andres Whitacre; sister, Rebecca Muresan Chapin of Bazetta; and sister-in-law, Shirley Muresan of Bristolville.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Jr., Aurel, George and Peter Muresan; sisters, Anna Muresan, Aurelia Ross, Mary Spala, Celia McGinty, Georgene Muresan, Lena Shipman and Madeline Chronister; and former husband and friend, James A. Whitacre.
With heartfelt thanks to caregiver and friend, Sherry, and to Hospice of Southern Care, especially Nurse Robin.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2024, at Wildare Church, 7211 N. Park Ave. Extension, Cortland (Champion Township).
Family and friends may call 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Wildare Church.
Interment will be in All Souls Cemetery, Bazetta Township.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
