John T. Chewning 1947-2024

BROOKFIELD — John T. Chewning, 77, passed away Friday evening, Oct. 25, 2024, at Cortland Healthcare Center.
John was born in Sharon, Pa., on March 28, 1947, a son of the late John and Lillian Beatrice Bailey Chewning.
John was a graduate of Sharpsville High School and Youngstown State University. He retired after 36 years with Parker Hannafin Cleveland as corporate director of compensation. He enjoyed his worldwide contacts and working with senior leadership seeing results accomplished.
John was a previous member of the local Society for Human Resources and 60,000 members of SHRM. He volunteered with the Youngstown United Way, Butler Institute of Modern Art fundraising and SHRM outing on behalf of Tod Children’s Hospital. He was a member of Victory Christian Center Warren Campus.
He was married 38 years to Linda B. Chewning, who preceded him in death in 2014.
He is survived by a nephew, Alan (Susan) Lee and their three children, Skylar, Summer and Thomas; and a niece whom he considered his daughter, Laurie Meixelberger (Shawn) of Howland.
John wishes to acknowledge his many friends and neighbors and is forever grateful for their friendships.
Heartfelt gratitude is extended to the wonderful staff of Cortland Healthcare and Traditions Healthcare-Hospice. All of these angels on Earth provided John with a peaceful and compassionate environment for John to pass from this life to his next. No doubt he will be singing Gilligan’s song about the “three-hour tour.” He sang it every time he had an appointment; most times he was spot on.
