Rachel Ann Henderson 1947-2024
SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Rachel Ann Henderson passed away Friday, Aug. 23, 2024.
She was born April 13, 1947, in Sharon, Pa., to Archibald and Mildred Williams Henderson. Rachel was the oldest of six children. She spent her youth and early adult years in Warren. Rachel was a 1965 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, and upon graduation, attended Western College for Women, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Rachel was a free spirit and after her college graduation, she and several friends embarked on a hiking tour of Europe. She backpacked through various countries, stopping on occasion to work and earn enough money to continue her adventures.
Upon returning to the United States, Rachel began her working career at Wean Manufacturing, and later became a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. In 1989, Rachel applied for a transfer within the U.S. Postal Service and ventured to San Diego, California, where she lived until her passing.
She loved the California lifestyle and enjoyed living in the Hillcrest area, where she was able to easily walk and enjoy the local sites, or pick up a cup of coffee and a pastry from a favorite bakery.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, and younger sisters, Suzanne Ensign and Mary Henderson.
She is survived by brother, Danny (Wendy) Henderson; sister, Melanie (Jim) Howsare; and brother, Gary (Brenda) Henderson.
In addition to her siblings, Rachel is survived by numerous nieces and nephews with many memories of a unique aunt with a lot of character.
Rachel loved sweets and shared her enjoyment with all family members by sending petit fours every Christmas. She was an avid sports fan — routinely watching baseball and football games, and subscribing to Sports Illustrated so she could keep up with her favorite teams and players. Rachel started each day with a cup of coffee and a few newspapers, always trying to stay up on current events. Rachel will be missed by all who knew her!
Funeral services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice, in honor of Rachel.
