Richard L. Scherich 1954-2022

WARREN — Richard L. Scherich, 68, passed away peacefully 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022, at the Cleveland Clinic after battling complications of lung transplant surgery.

Rick, as he was known by many, was born July 16, 1954, in Waynesburg, Pa., the son of Joseph and Pauline Scott Scherich.

Rick retired in October 2003 from the General Motors Corp.’s Lordstown plant as a welder following 30 years of faithful service.

A graduate of Waynesburg High School in 1972, he was an outstanding high school basketball player. He was a very good bowler and bowled several 300 games and 800 total scores. Rick loved playing cards, chess, golf and baseball.

He was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan and most of all, he was the nicest, friendliest person you would ever want to meet.

Rick is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Monica H. Rozbitsky Scherich, whom he married July 2, 1990; furry children, P.J. and Izzy; brother, Ronald (Valerie) Scherich of Niles; two sisters, Tammy Scherich and Joetta Scherich of Waynesburg, Pa.; eight nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Scherich; sister, Debbie Scherich; and nephew, Ronnie Scherich.

Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, 2022, at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, Niles, where a funeral service will follow at 5 p.m., with the Rev. James Spatholt of the New Hope United Methodist Church of Niles officiating.

Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2022, at the Greene County Memorial Park Cemetery, Waynesburg, Pa.
