Helen Kaniclides 1929-2022

AUSTINTOWN — Helen “Sis” Kaniclides, 92, passed away peacefully 5 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022, at the Victoria House in Austintown, following a short illness.

She was born Oct. 18, 1929, in Niles, the daughter of Nicholas and Julia Kowalchik Constantino.

She was a 1947 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and worked as a bookkeeper for several doctors’ offices and insurance agencies.

Helen was a member of the St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Warren, Niles Senior Citizens Center, Happy Chatter Club and the Howland Garden Club. She was a wonderful baker and shared her baked goods with family and friends. Helen also enjoyed playing bingo, traveling and to go dancing with her late husband’s family. Many years ago, she was a Girl Scout leader.

Helen is survived by a son, Michael Kaniclides of Romulus, Mich.; two daughters, Kristine Kaniclides of Powell and Kathie Kaniclides of Austintown; three grandsons, Nicholas S. Kaniclides and twins, Andreas M. Kaniclides and Alexander D. Kaniclides, all of Belleville, Mich.; two brothers, George Cost and Gus Cost, both of Niles; sister-in-law, Helen Wilson of Howland; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley M. Kaniclides, whom she married Aug. 15, 1954, and who died May 14, 2005.

Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2022, at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, where there will be a 5:30 p.m. Trisagion Service. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, 2022, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, preceded by calling hours from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., at the funeral home. The Rev. Constantine Valantasis will officiate.

Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
