Betty L. Nicholson-Breasure 1933-2022

LAUREL, Md. — Betty L. Nicholson-Breasure, 89, of Laurel, Md., closed her eyes on Earth and opened them in heaven on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022; she is probably looking for the first dance floor she can find.

She was born Jan. 25, 1933, in Pittsville, Md., a daughter of the late Thelma Hamblen Dunston and Oscar Dunston.

Betty was a longtime member of Pittsville Full Gospel Church. She was the gentle hand and soft word that held her family together as her loved ones traveled through the journey of life. Betty saw numerous family members and friends go to war for their country. She loved supporting veterans, dancing and sharing encouraging words with people in need.

Betty previously worked at the Railroad Cafe in Delmar and as a parking lot attendant at the Salisbury Airport. She was a member of the Moose Lodge in Salisbury, the Kiwanis Club and the American Legion.

She is survived by her children, Sylvia Pruitt (Virgil), Sandy Hopkins and Oscar Dunston; stepdaughter, Sherry Dukes (Mike); brother, Chuck Dunston (Joyce); grandchildren, Lee Nicholson (Sara), Nicole Nicholson-Shaffer (Joe), Robert J. Nicholson, Bill Nicholson, Stephen Nicholson (Micki), April Nicholson, Christina Wolfe (Elwood), Ashley Choi (Min) and Mike Dunston; great-grandchildren, Sabrina Nicholson, Kylie Nicholson, Joey Shaffer, Alex Nicholson, Justin Erwin, Alexis Pruitt, Braden Furniss, Trinity Furniss, Larissa Furniss and Justice Furniss; great-great-grandchild, Honey Nicholson; and many more grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her special cat, “Muffin.”

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest Nicholson II and second husband, Bruce Breasure; sons, Ernest Nicholson III (Brenda) and Vernon Nicholson (Karen); stepchildren, Darlene Hazel, Mickey Nicholson and Kenny Nicholson; brothers, Jack Dunston and Frank Dunston; a sister, Dorothy Dunston; and grandchildren, Norman Nicholson and Charlie Nicholson.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2022, at Short Funeral Home in Delmar, Del. A graveside will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron, Md. The Rev. Linda Lane will officiate.
