Betty L. Sanzenbacher 1924-2021

HOWLAND — Betty Lou Sanzenbacher, 97, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021, at home, surrounded by family.

She was born Oct. 5, 1924, in Warren, to Ross E. Wilson and Ruth Taylor Wilson.

Betty was a graduate of Howland High School and Kent State University, 1946. She maintained the fondest of memories and friends from her co-op years (when there was a shortage of on-campus housing) during World War II. Betty worked for 15 years as an English teacher at Leavittsburg and Howland Jr. High School. She attended Howland Community Church, where she served as a deaconess. She was a staunch believer in volunteering, giving her time to many organizations, including Girl Scouts, Howland Community Church and Warren General Hospital. In later years, she was her husband’s “sight,” quietly supporting his endeavors so he could continue life, though blind. Eventually, she too would lose her sight. Betty enjoyed tutoring, babysitting and was an avid reader.

Survivors include her daughters, Sherie L. (Ritch Kovacic) Sanzenbacher, Elaine K. (Garry) Cunningham and Jill A. (Mike) McGoff; grandchildren, Jacob and Mallory McGoff, Heidi (Chris) Frankowski, Abey (Michael) Overholt and Jeff Francisco; great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Olivia Frankowski and Johnny Francisco.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Glen; her parents; and her sister, Arlene Kepner.

Per Betty’s wishes and family coronavirus concerns, there will be no public services.

In lieu of flowers, contribution may be made to the Cleveland Sight Center, 1909 E. 101st St., Cleveland, Ohio 44106.
