Stirl M. Boggs 1943-2021

NILES — Stirl M. “Popeye” Boggs, of Niles, passed away 11:58 p.m. Monday, April 19, 2021, in his residence with his loving family by his side. He was 78.

Stirl was born Feb. 16, 1943, in Niles, the son of the late Lonnie and Edna Mae Hanshaw Boggs.

He attended Niles McKinley High School. Popeye, as he was affectionately known by his friends and family, was employed in various departments at the Lordstown General Motors Corp. Assembly and Van Plant.

Mr. Boggs was of the Baptist faith. Earlier in life, he enjoyed working on cars in his garage. Stirl looked forward to his trips to the casino, walking around stores and looking at the various items for sale, family picnics at Idora Park and the occasional pranks he played on his kids.

He is survived by his wife, Oneita Shreves Boggs, whom he married in 1960; four daughters, Diana Burns of Niles, Karen (Charles) Baran of Warren, Carol (David) Bunea of Warren and JoAnna (Mike) Day of Mineral Ridge; two sons, Roger Boggs and Paul (Christine) Boggs, both of Niles; three sisters, Evonne (Jack) Epperheart of McDonald, Darlene Boggs of Niles and Barbara (Dominic) Fuda of Niles; two brothers, Dexter (Bobbie) Boggs of Niles and Eugene Boggs of Tennessee; 21 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Stirl was preceded in death by a son, Daryl Boggs; a sister, Jule Brown; and two brothers, John and Thearl Boggs.

Calling hours will be 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2021, at Wm Nicholas Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 614 Warren Ave., Niles, Ohio 44446.

A funeral service will immediately follow calling hours Saturday in the funeral home.
