Joan Sweitzer. 1936-2020
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — Joan Sweitzer, 84, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020, in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
Joan was born on Feb. 29, 1936, in Girard, to Paul and Twila Ash. She was a graduate of Vernon High School and Hiram College .
She married Bob, her high school sweetheart, on Dec 3, 1955. Joan had a lengthy career at Packard Electric, retiring in 1991. After raising their four boys, Joan and Bob moved to Oak Ridge, where she began volunteer work for Methodist Medical and the Women’s Club of Oak Ridge.
Joan loved Italian food, traveling to new destinations and cheering on the Lady Vols.
Joan is survived by her sons, Robert II (Patti), Keith, Brian, and Kirk (Kay), her brothers and sisters, 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her grandson, Jason; and her parents.
A memorial service at Martin Funeral Home in Oak Ridge will be on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020, from 4 to 6 p.m. with Jeff Sledge officiating.
A funeral service is scheduled for Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the chapel within Kinsman Cemetery, and Joan will be laid to rest with her husband. Charles Kindle will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Joan’s life.
