Joseph R. Marhulik 1957-2020

CHAMPION — Joseph R. Marhulik, 63, retired police captain and lifelong area resident, entered into eternal rest Monday, June 29, 2020, at his home.

He was born Feb. 16, 1957, in Warren, the son of Joseph and Frances Kieta Marhulik.

A 1975 graduate of Howland High School and of Kent State University, Joe served in the U. S. Air Force, where he received his initial police training. He graduated from the State Police Academy before beginning in his 28-year career with the Warren Police Department, from which he retired in 2013.

Joe served as president of the local Fraternal Order of Police chapter for many years and was a CCW instructor.

He enjoyed baseball and travel, loved his many cats and was active in the deaf community.

Precious memories of Joe live on with his beloved wife, Cathryn Houston Marhulik, whom he married Sept. 28, 1984; three sons, Joseph M. Marhulik (Jessica Champion) of Niles, Samuel Marhulik (Lorri) of Warren and Max Marhulik (Tonya Smith) of Warren; seven grandchildren, Matthew J. Marhulik, Nolyn R. Marhulik, Grayson A. Marhulik, Matthew Agona, Bailey Reed, Aiden Joseph and Oliver Marhulik; and two brothers, John Marhulik (Nancy) of Niles and James Marhulik (Kathy) of Michigan.

His parents, Joseph and Frances Marhulik, precede him in death.

Services are private. Per his request, cremation is taking place.
