Clarence Clay 1951-2020
NILES — Clarence Clay of Niles was called home by the Lord on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was 69, born the son of the late Jessie and Jo Ada (Hardin) Clay Sr. on March 17, 1951, in Como, Mississippi.
He was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and retired from WCI steel with 30 years of service.
Deacon Clarence was a faithful and loyal member of the Hoyt Street Flourishing Ministries Church of God in Christ where he served as the president of the usher board. He also was a member of the State Usher Board of Ohio Central East jurisdiction under Bishop David L Herron Sr., prelate of OCE jurisdiction.
He was united into marriage with JoAnn Clay on Aug. 6, 1983. The two shared 36 years and 11 months together. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many.
His memories will be celebrated and remembered by those he leaves behind, his wife, JoAnn Clay of Niles; sons, Clarence C. (Jasman) Clay of Columbus, JaRel L. (Aaron) Clay of Glenarden, Md.; daughter, Aileena M. (Eric) Bender of Lordstown; brothers, Jessie (Debbie) Clay Jr., James Clay, both of Warren, and Carl Clay of Houston, Texas; sisters, Ruthie York of Youngstown, Annie Tipton, Juanita Mixon, Gail Clay and Delores Brazzle, all of Warren; and five grandchildren, Eric Bender Jr., Carter Clay, Jayce Jordan, Noah Clay and Cassius Clay; a special cousin, Jessie Hardin of Boardman; a godson, Jarrett (Melissa) Session of Duluth, Ga.; and a goddaughter, D’Asia Chambers of Tasmania, Australia.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty J. Jackson.
Due to the public health concerns caused by COVID-19, space during the service is limited to family only. Friends may have a private visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at the Hoyt St. Flourishing Ministries Church of God in Christ, 789 Hoyt Street, Warren. Family-only services officiated by Pastor Dr. Gerald L. Morgan will follow promptly at noon.
