Philip Marks 1937-2019

SOUTHINGTON — Philip “Jim” Marks, 82, peacefully passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, with his daughters by his side.

He was born April 16, 1937, in Warren, the son of Rosemary Nichols Marks and Lowell Marks.

Jim graduated in 1955 from Chalker High School, where he enjoyed baseball, basketball and wood shop.

Jim proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army and retired from Copperweld Steel in 1988. He was an avid golfer and loved to bowl and to go fishing with his buddies in Canada.

He is survived by his sister, Phyllis Marks Martin; his first wife and mother of his children, Harriet Karr Marks; his daughters, Dianne (Carmen) Horvath and Melissa (Matthew) Hathaway; his nephews, Michael A. Martin and Edward D. Martin; his grandchildren, Amber, Logan, Dakota, Ashley and Katie; and his great-granddaughters, Avery and Lily.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Rosemary Marks and Lowell Marks; his grandfather, Frank Nichols; as well as his second and third wives, Erika Marks and Gertrude “Sue” Marks.

Family and friends will be received to celebrate Jim’s life 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019, at Cortland Trinity Baptist Church, 2576 McCleary-Jacoby Road, Cortland, Ohio, with a memorial service officiated by the Rev. Dan Barker at 6 p.m.
