Ralph H. Hoover Jr. 1928-2019

CHAMPION — Ralph Hugh Hoover Jr, 91, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019, at Briar Hill Care Center.

He was born July 10, 1928, in Georges Township, Pa., to the late Ralph B. and Reva Gladys Robinson Hoover.

He graduated in 1946 from Sutton High School in West Virginia and received his associate’s degree in agriculture at Potomac State School of West Virginia University in 1950.

Ralph served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army engineer division during the Korean War.

He worked for GM, Euclid Fisher Body, for 32 years and retired in 1987. He attended Grace Baptist Church in Champion and was a member of the UAW. Ralph enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

He will be sadly missed by his three children, Timothy Ray Hoover, Bradford Lee (Jo Beth) Hoover and Rebecca Jean Vaughn; three grandchildren, Jessica (John) Hottle, Jason Vaughn and Keith (Jessica) Hoover; five sisters, Aretta Rose, Avenell Pierson (James) Keener, Elaine (Leon) Dillon, Sharon E. Falkner and Sheila K. (George) Calkins; one brother, Woodrow Carson (Lois) Hoover; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine P. Rhodes Hoover, who died Nov. 13, 2005, and his son, Thomas J. Hoover, who died in 1992.

Calling hours will be held 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High St., Middlefield, OH 44062. A celebration of life will begin at 4 p.m. Ralph will be laid to rest in Braxton Memorial Garden Cemetery, Sutton, W.Va., next to his wife and son.
