James M. Harman Sr. 1928-2019

CORTLAND — James M. Harman Sr., 91, of Cortland, died Saturday evening, July 13, 2019, at Shepherd of the Valley in Howland.

He was born March 12, 1928, in Leechburg, Pa., a son of George and Velma Fox Harman.

He had worked in the maintenance department for General Refractories in Champion for over 30 years and was a member of North-Mar Church in Warren. He was an Air Force veteran and had enjoyed golfing and traveling.

Besides his wife, the former Margaret McPhilliamy, whom he married Dec. 6, 1948, he leaves two sons, James M. Harman Jr. of Champion and Timothy Harman of Gainesville, Va.; two daughters, Susan (Rick) Roncevich of Freedom, Pa. and Nancy (Paul) Harlow of Northport, Maine; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, James was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Harman; and two brothers, Earl and William Harman.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at North-Mar Church in Warren. Friends may call two hours, from 9 to 11 a.m., prior to the services Wednesday at the chuch.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Hospice of the Valley for the excellent care and support they provided.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests material contributions take the form of donations to North-Mar Church.
