Barn and tractors damaged in fire

BRACEVILLE — Seven fire departments responded to a barn fire shortly after 3 a.m. Monday at 998 Center World South Road SW.

Dark heavy smoke from the fire could be seen in both directions from Kale Adams and Center Roads. The barn was destroyed.

Property owners, Earl and Barbara Hartford, said the barn was built in 1904 and it originally had a slate roof. The barn was about 10 feet from the house, according to a Trumbull County 911 report.

The Hartfords said there were four tractors inside the barn — two large Economy Power King tractors and two smaller yard tractors.

There were four vehicles in a carport attached to the barn. There also were several vehicles that sustained damage. A large recreational vehicle was parked near the carport, according to Trumbull County 911.

No persons or animals were injured.

Firefighters were at the scene until about 7:30 a.m. The cause of the fire and damage estimates remain under investigation.

Braceville Fire Department received mutual aid from Newton Falls, Warren Township and Southington fire departments. Champion, Lordstown and Milton Township also assisted.

Hartford described pulling back his bedroom curtains and seeing the glow of the fire from the barn.

There was a blue hue to the flames, according to Trumbull County 911. The blue hue color concerned firefighters because there could have been chemicals in the barn, a report states.

The family has lived on the property for 56 years. Hartford described the farm as a hobby farm.
