Denzil R. Carr 1935-2019

MESOPOTAMIA — Denzil Ray Carr, 83, of Mesopotamia, passed away peacefully Monday, March 11, 2019, at his home, with his family by his side.

He was born on Sept. 8, 1935, in Shinnston, W.Va., son of the late Hursey Ray and Lena Vivian Cain Carr.

He was a proud U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War 1952 to 1956 as Specialist Third Class. He received the National Defense Medal, Ambassador of Peace Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the Military Service Cross.

Denzil married Mary Ann Stutzman and lived in the Mesopotamia and Windsor area over 26 years. He was an excavator for SiteWork, where he helped pour the concrete and build Geauga Lake Park. Denzil retired from Ohio Laborers Union in 2001. He enjoyed the outdoors and camping, but most of all being with his family and friends, who will miss him dearly.

Denzil is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Mary Ann Carr; three loving daughters, Julie Carr, Theresa (Dan) Slusher and Sherri Carr; seven grandchildren, Jessica (Solomon) Nester, Jeff Utz, Samantha Utz, Melissa Slusher, Randy Lupold Jr., Jeffery Harris and LeeAnn Harris; and five great-grandchildren, Oliver and Sebastian Nester and Warren, Jason and Sahara Lupold.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Gerald Carr.

Calling hours will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High St, Middlefield, Ohio 44062, where a celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday.
