Robert J. Yuhas 1931-2019

UPPER ARLINGTON — Col. Robert J. Yuhas, 87, of Upper Arlington, Ohio, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, at home with his family.

Col. Yuhas, born April 14, 1931, was raised in Leavittsburg, and graduated from Warren Township High School (Leavittsburg) and Youngstown College, now Youngstown State University, where he played basketball on a scholarship. He entered the Army as a ROTC DMG and served 30 years of active federal service. He had overseas tours of duty in Germany, Vietnam (twice) and Saudi Arabia, as well as several assignments within the U.S. He received several awards for his service among them the Defense Superior Service Award, the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star. He was most proud of his service with young soldiers as a Battery Commander, a Company Commander and a Battalion Commander. After retiring from the Army, he worked in the prison industries within the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

Robert enjoyed fishing, tinkering in his workshop, going to OSU basketball games with his buddy, Mike Lucas, and especially enjoyed watching his grandkids play sports — football, lacrosse, soccer and baseball were all on the schedule. He was so proud of their athletic and academic accomplishments. Robert loved spending time with his family and grandkids. Tough and generous, supportive and encouraging, he always had a good story to share.

Col. Yuhas was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rose Yuhas; brother, David; and two young uncles with whom he was raised, John E. Yuhas and Robert L. Yuhas.

He is survived by his loving and patient wife of 64 years, Lucille Rhodes Yuhas; his four sons, Bruce (Hannah), Brian (Amy), Mark and Jeffery (Kerry); and six grandchildren, Riley, Kacy, Gabriel, Timothy, Taylor and Kyle.

A celebration of life service will be 4 p.m., with a reception to follow until 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington. Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.

Family would like to thank the Kobacker House / Ohio Health Hospice and their amazing representatives Matt, Jessica and Zach (chaplain). They were a pleasure to work with and a comfort to the family.
