Robert L. Niessner 1930-2019

FOWLER — Robert Leo Niessner, age 88, passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2019, at Hospice House.

Robert was born Jan. 21, 1930, in Wilkinsburg, Pa., to the late Leo and Violet Niessner.

He was a graduate of Westview High School class of 1948. He resided in Fowler since 1959. Bob has been a faithful member of St. Robert Catholic Church since moving to the area.

After high school and during the Korean War, Bob joined the U.S. Army, where he learned the electrical trade. After his discharge from the Army, he and his new bride traveled the country while Bob worked on radar towers. Bob had a brilliant mind for electronics and could build or create almost anything. He enjoyed spending time with his family and helping everyone with household projects. He retired from Commercial Intertech in 1992 as an industrial electrician.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Niessner Kelly; and a daughter, Mary Jane Niessner.

He will be forever missed by his wife of 64 years, the former Valeria M. Yancha, whom he married June 26, 1954. He also leaves his five children, Deborah Saddler of Hartford, Linda Lopuchovsky of Hubbard, Robert Niessner of Marysville, Calif., David (Melissa) Niessner of Mesa, Ariz., and Daryl (Paula) Niessner of Vienna; and many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Friends may call 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2019, at St. Robert Catholic Church, 4659 state Route 46 in Cortland, where the Rev. Fr. Carl Kish will celebrate the Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m.
