Donald F. Guerra 1945-2018
NILES — Donald F. Guerra, 73, of Niles, died at 12:44 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018, at Hospice of The Valley Hospice House in Poland.
He was born Feb. 11, 1945, in Warren, the son of Fabian and Rita Bologna Guerra.
Don was a 1964 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and was a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona, Fla. He was employed as a journeyman pipe fitter at WCI, Thomas Steel and Delphi Packard, retiring in 2000. He also owned and operated Guerra’s Dental Lab in Youngstown for10 years and was a flight instructor for 50 years.
Don was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Niles, a Trumbull County Democratic precinct committee member and enjoyed golfing, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his granddaughters. He was also an avid Green Bay Packers and New York Yankees fan.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam for 13 months then came over stateside to serve at NORAD in the Cheyenne Mountains of Wyoming.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Donna Stabile Guerra, whom he married Nov. 23, 1972; his sons, Donald (Andria) Guerra and their children, Sophia and Gabriella of Niles, and David (Cathy) Guerra and their children, Macey and Anna of McDonald; a brother, Fabian (Nancy) Guerra Jr. of Pasadena, Md.; a sister, Nina (Jim) Miller of Amelia Island, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Niles. Following the Mass, all are invited to join the family at Ciminero’s Banquet Center where Don will be honored for his military service by The Trumbull County American Legion Honor Guard.
