Richard O. Wertz
WARREN — Richard “Dick” Owen Wertz, 84, of Warren, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, at Regency East Hospital.
He was born March 24, 1932, in Warren, a son of the late Everette D. Wertz and the late Ann G. Lozner.
Dick graduated from North Lima High School in 1949, and then met and married the former Kathleen “Kate” Gilbert.
He was employed at American Welding and Manufacturing Corp. for 38 years and retired as plant superintendent.
Dick was a member of the Howland Community Church, a 60 plus-year member of Old Erie F&AM, the Warren Moose Lodge #186, VFW Post #1090 and the Warren Slovak Club. He enjoyed golf, gardening, bowling, traveling to casinos and was an overall “Fix it Man.” Dick also enjoyed playing baseball, softball and basketball in his younger years.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Kathleen “Kate” Gilbert Wertz of Warren; a daughter, Deborah (Michael) Zador of Howland; two sons, William Richard (Amalia) Wertz of Schertz, Texas and Robert Owen (Brenda) Wertz of Davidsville, Pa.; grandchildren, John, James and Matthew Zador, and Danielle and Lindsey Wertz; step-grandchildren, Zelda (Bryan) Brummett, Roxanne (David) Lamkin and Andrea (John) O’Brien. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Ann Kemp of Austin, Texas; and two half-brothers, Michael Wertz of San Diego and Gary Yeagley of Los Angeles.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Friday, Feb.10, 2017, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, where the Rev. Mary Ann Short will officiate. Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
