Leroy E. Hardman 1927-2013

SOUTHINGTON – Leroy E. ”Shorty” Hardman, 86, of Southington, died Saturday morning, May 25, 2013, at Briar Hill Health Care in Middlefield.

He was born Jan. 23, 1927, in Southington, the son of Elmer and Dorothy Smith Hardman. He was a lifetime Southington resident.

Shorty served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He retired in 1987 from the maintenance department at Ohio Lamp Division of G.E., where he had worked for 44-1/2 years.

He had been a member of Southington United Methodist Church, the Southington American Legion Post No. 751 where he had served as commander and was past president of the 20-Year Ohio Lamp Club.

Shorty volunteered at the Warren Veterans Clinic. He enjoyed gardening, yardwork, tinkering around the house and antique and classic cars. He loved Farmall tractors and attending horse and pony pulls as well as antique tractor pulls.

He is survived by his wife of more than 64 years, Dolores J. Donaldson Hardman, whom he married Sept. 11, 1948; two sons, Robert (Karen) Hardman of Bristolville and Gary (Linda) Hardman of Southington; two grandchildren, Brian (Alyson) Hardman and Amie Hardman; and three great grandsons, Brandon and twins Andrew and Aiden. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

One brother, Wayne Hardman, preceded him in death.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

Burial will be at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southington American Legion Post No. 751.
