Man charged after teen beat up

NILES — A man is being held in the Trumbull County Jail on a charge of felonious assault after reports a teen was beaten with a belt buckle and severely injured, according to a police report.
Justin S. Riley, 20, 616 N. Main St., is being held on a $50,000 bond on the second-degree felony charge filed July 12 in Niles Municipal Court and is being held without bond on a 2015 case from the same court for carrying a concealed weapon, court records show.
Court records do not list Riley’s next hearing date. Pleas are not entered for felony charges filed in municipal courts.
Riley was charged after reports a South Street boy, 17, was beat up July 7 with a belt buckle near Red Dragon Convenient, following a dispute in Waddell Park earlier in the day, a Niles police report states.
“The victim’s injuries were severe,” the police officer reported, adding the victim couldn’t write a statement when police spoke to him.
Three others are listed on the police report as suspects — boys aging from 13 to 16. It is unclear if the juveniles were charged.
The victim was treated for cuts to his face at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
