2 standoff suspects remain in county jail
Two men involved in two separate standoffs within several days in Trumbull County were arraigned Monday.
Tony A. Walton, 50, of Linden Avenue in Warren, was arraigned before Warren Municipal Court Judge Natasha Natale on two counts of felonious assault, a second-degree felony. He is being held in the Trumbull County jail without bond and is scheduled to be back in court for a preliminary hearing Thursday, court records show.
Two subjects, a man and woman, were removed and placed in police vehicles after the approximate six-hour standoff Friday near the intersection of East Market Street and Linden Avenue SE.
Officers from the Warren Police Department and Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office and a SWAT unit responded after a person in the home reportedly fired a weapon. Authorities spent most of Friday morning and early afternoon trying to get the man, later identified as Walton, to surrender. The standoff ended at approximately 1:50 p.m. Friday.
NILES STANDOFF
Xavier Trevon Arrington, 20, appeared in front of Niles Municipal Court Judge Christopher Shaker Monday on a felony charge of discharging a firearm on or near a prohibited premises and misdemeanor charges of inducing panic and having weapons under disability.
His bond was set at $500,000 and he remains at the Trumbull County jail. He is due back in court Wednesday, according to Niles Municipal Court records.
A news release from Niles police Chief Jay Holland said the police department received numerous reports after 4:30 a.m. Sunday of gunshots being fired in the South Cedar Street area. When police arrived at 28 Wood Ave., they heard more gunshots and a woman screaming.
The release states that a man, later identified as Arrington, was spotted carrying a rifle on Wood Avenue and then was seen running into the apartment building.
The standoff began when the occupants of the apartment refused to answer the door. The Niles Special Response Team was activated, and a search warrant was obtained with the assistance of Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Christopher Becker.
Multiple attempts to make contact with the occupants were unsuccessful. The suspect’s mother was contacted by the SRT negotiator and she came to the scene, the report states.
A woman who lived in the apartment eventually came out and surrendered to the SRT team. She was interviewed and released with no charges, Holland said.
A drone was eventually deployed and phone contact was made with the primary suspect. Arrington peacefully surrendered after several hours and was taken into custody.
The release states that when executing the search warrant, detectives found a loaded AR-15 rifle and multiple spent shell casings at the scene.
The release states that it appeared Arrington was intoxicated and he exited the apartment and began to shoot at random after a domestic disturbance.
