WHAT: Board of Education meeting Wednesday

PRESENT: Mark Haddle, Kenneth Wallace, Michele Garman, Beth Haddle and Joel Polonus

The board:

• Accepted $21,193 from the Rural School Achievement Grant for the 2026 fiscal year as a new funding grant allocation.

• Approved hiring Carla Pacileo as a speech and language pathologist at a rate of $30 per hour, up to 21.75 hours per week, on an “as needed basis” as determined by administration for 36 weeks for the 2025-26 school year.

• Approved rehiring classified personnel approved by the board and having worked in a substitute capacity during the 2024-2025 school year.

• Approved employing Christopher Hillier as a permanent substitute teacher for the 2025-2026 school year at a rate of $130 per day, pending proper certification and BCII and FBI checks.

• Accepted the resignation of Melanie Abraham as a teacher.

• Approved Michele Bolchalk as a school nurse for the 2025-26 school year for $38,260 a year, pending proper certification, pre-employment drug screening, and BCII and FBI checks.

• Approved five extended days for Bolchalk at a daily rate of $218, effective Aug. 1, 2025.

• Approved the employment of Jodi Guarneri as a substitute nurse for $120 per day as needed.

• Approve 10 extended days for school psychologist Brittany Schillaci at a daily rate of $318.39, effective Aug. 1, 2025.

• Approved Jeannie Geilhart as a substitute secretary, on an as-needed basis, for $20.13 per hour.

• Approved reducing educational aide Lena Ockenfels’s hours from 7.25 hours to 2.50 hours, paid at a rate of $17.07 for the 2025-26 school year.

• Approved Ockenfels as a Title 1 Tutor for the 2025-26 school year, at a rate of $30 per hour, 4.75 hours per day, pending proof of proper credentials.

• Approved changing adult breakfast and lunch prices from $1.65 and $4 to $2 and $5, respectively.

• Approved utilizing Trumbull County Educational Service Center’s substitute teacher list for elementary, secondary and special education instructors for the 2025-2026 school year.

• Approved paying athletic / game workers $30 per game for junior high and high school football, volleyball, soccer and basketball for the 2025-26 school year.

WHAT: Board of Education regular meeting Wednesday

PRESENT: Derek Mihalcin, Ronda Bonekovic, Sarah Kurpe, Melissa Sydlowski and Jerry Necastro

The board:

• Approved a partnership between the district and Junior Achievement of Mahoning Valley to provide instruction in free enterprise, including work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy. It is effective for the 2025-26 school year at no cost to the district.

• Approved a master service agreement and scope of work between the district and Go 4 Healthcare LLC to provide athletic training services Aug. 18, 2025, through May 26, 2026, for $59,739.

• Accepted Erin Banko’s resignation as a first-grade teacher, effective June 26.

• Accepted Danielle Buie’s resignation as school nurse, effective June 30.

• Accepted Alexandria Gregg’s resignation as educational aide, effective immediately.

• Accepted Aubriana Smith’s resignation as educational aide, effective immediately.

• Approved hiring Richard Pierce as a middle school tutor at the start of the 2025-26 school year. Pierce will be paid an hourly rate of $27.46.

• Approved a one-year limited contract for Marlena Blatt as an educational aide at a rate of $15.61 an hour.

• Approved salary lane changes for the following certificated employees: Tabitha Majovsky, kindergarten teacher; Gabrielle Aquino, first-grade teacher; Gianna Grasso, speech and language pathologist; Elizabeth Pilolli, third-grade teacher; Isabella Fry, intervention specialist.

• Approved the following 2025-26 fees for Brookfield High School: art course, $10 per semester; biology, $15; chemistry, $15; English, based on supplies or paperback books; human physiology, $15; graduate transcripts, $7, physics, $15; forensic science, $10; senior class, $70; student parking, $25.

• Approved the 2025-26 transportation schedule of bus routes and times as submitted by Transportation Supervisor Meghan Zachery. The information is on file at the transportation office.

• Approved using the certified and classified substitution list provided by the Trumbull County Educational Service Center for the 2025-26 school year. The list includes certified and classified educational aides and individuals on an on-call basis.

• Approved a resolution to employ non-certified and non-certificated individuals at the school as substitute teachers.

• Approved the district’s annual Title I policy, which encourages parents of students receiving Title 1 services to participate in the design and implementation of the program.
