SNAP benefits accepted at 4 area farmers markets

Four Trumbull County sites are among the more than 100 farmers markets statewide where Ohioans receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits can use their benefits, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services said Monday.

Local participants are:

• Howland Farmers Market, 8189 E. Market St., which operates 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through Oct. 11. The Howland Farmers Market will operate a second location at 8273 High St., 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first and third Saturdays monthly from Nov. 1 through May 16, 2026. For more information, visit www.howlandfarmersmarket.com.

• Hubbard Farmers Market, 13 W. Liberty St., operates 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays through Sept. 28 at 13 W. Liberty St. Visit www.shophubbardohio.com/home/hubbardfarmers-market for additional information.

• Warren Farmers Market, 347 N. Park Ave., is open 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Sept. 30. Its website is www.warrenfarmersmarket.org.

SNAP helps low-income individuals supplement their household budgets to purchase food using the Ohio Direction Card, which is like a debit card from a bank. Participating farmers’ markets display signs indicating they accept SNAP, EBT or the Ohio Direction Card.

Typically, cardholders will use their card to purchase tokens at the farmers’ market, which can then be used to buy eligible food. Ohioans receiving SNAP benefits can either bring extra tokens back next time they visit or get a refund back on their card before they leave.

Starting at $3.23/week.
