On the record: Vienna
WHAT: Trustees meeting July 7
PRESENT: Richard Dascenzo, Mike Haddle and Phil Pegg
Trustees:
• Accepted a $250,000 donation from the Cafaro Foundation, which was presented to trustees during a July 1 press conference. Trustee Phil Pegg explained $100,000 of the donation will be paid this year, while another $100,000 will be paid out in April 2026 and $50,000 will be paid in April 2027.
• Approved paying costs associated with 2025 fiscal officer training. Fiscal Officer Jason Miner said the training is put on by the Auditor of State’s office, not the Ohio Townships Association, and it will put him “pretty close” to the hours required of him in the position.
• Designated Miner as the township’s representative for certified public records training. Miner said the training was also offered by the Auditor of State’s office, but was free.
• Heard from fire Chief Gus Birch that the fire department received an EMS grant for $6,550 from the Ohio Department of Public Safety.
• Heard from Birch that they’ve been having some hydraulic line leaks on a rescue truck, but one of the fire department’s members, who is a mechanic, is looking at it.
• Heard from Birch that Fowler has a new fire chief, Todd Metzendorf, who he’s known for many years. Birch said the two townships hope to work together for manpower and a potential agreement regarding grants, as it is easier to get state grants if departments apply jointly.
• Approved a memorandum of understanding between the fire department and Youngstown Safety Forces Foundation Inc, a non-profit, to establish a partnership that would include exchanging resources and training opportunities.
• Heard from Deputy Road Superintendent Ron Fraser that the road department is working new hours, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
