Court dismisses appeal in arson, murder case
WARREN — The Ohio 11th District Court of Appeals issued a dismissal of an appeal by a convicted murderer.
The court dismissed an appeal filed by Zachary Gurd, who was sentenced to life in prison for his role in a fatal 2023 house fire in Warren.
The dismissal came after Gurd’s attorney, Michael Partlow, filed a motion to withdraw the appeal following the state’s response to his initial brief. Oral arguments, previously scheduled for May 29, were canceled as a result.
Gurd and two co-defendants received life sentences for their actions on Jan. 19, 2023, which included setting a fire that killed 16-year-old Chassidy Broadstone as she slept in her home on Nevada Avenue NW.
