Blast noises will increase in Falls
NEWTON FALLS — Residents and business owners near Camp James A. Garfield Joint Military Training Center may notice an increase in blast noise from the area today through Sunday.
Explosives will be used during training conducted by the Ohio Army National Guard’s 811th Engineer Company (Sapper). The planned explosives training helps maintain engineer soldiers’ demolition skills and is an important part of military readiness that simulates realistic battle conditions. Sounds from the explosions may be heard farther away than what occurs during normal operations.
Army sappers are elite combat engineers skilled in a variety of military engineering duties such as minefield placement or clearing, bridge-building, demolitions, field defenses, and road and airfield construction. Sappers are responsible for tasks that help facilitate movement of allied forces and impede adversaries.
