Reward offered after cats found poisoned

Staff report

WARREN TOWNSHIP — A Maryland based cat advocacy group, Alley Cat Allies, is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for poisoning community cats with antifreeze-laced food at a mobile home park.

According to a news release, at least three cats died in what police call a deliberate act of cruelty.

On March 26, humane agents from the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County discovered three bowls containing tuna mixed with antifreeze and bleach at the Blue Water Manor mobile home community. A bleach bottle was found discarded nearby, suggesting the cats were intentionally targeted.

Antifreeze, which contains the highly toxic chemical ethylene glycol, is known to attract animals because of its sweet taste. Even a small amount can cause a slow, agonizing death.

“This was a senseless and disturbing act of cruelty,” said Charlene Pedrolie, president of Alley Cat Allies. “We urge anyone with information to come forward before more animals are harmed.”

Authorities are asking anyone with tips to contact the Trumbull AWL Humane Investigations Department at 330-539-5300 or humane@AWLTrumbull.com.

Starting at $3.23/week.
