County sergeant placed on paid leave amid investigation
WARREN — A Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office sergeant has been placed on paid administrative leave as part of an active investigation.
Officials have declined to identify the employee, citing privacy rules.
Human Resources Director Alex DeVengencie-Bush confirmed the leave in an email but the sheriff’s office has not released the sergeant’s name or the nature of the allegations.
The decision to withhold details, she said, follows the Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association labor agreement, which requires confidentiality during pending disciplinary investigations.
Under the union contract, the sheriff’s office must make “reasonable efforts” to withhold an employee’s name and disciplinary details until an internal probe is complete and a final decision is reached.
The office also cited Ohio public records law, which exempts law enforcement from disclosing investigatory records in open cases.
