Warren man hospitalized after stabbing

WARREN — A city man was hospitalized Wednesday night after being stabbed at his Benton Street SE residence.

The attacker has not been identified.

According to a city police report, the attack occurred about 6:44 p.m Wednesday in the 1900 block of Benton Street SE. Officers found the 46-year-old victim exiting his home and bleeding heavily from a 2-inch gash near his left armpit. He told officers he had been stabbed while taking out the garbage.

Officers applied pressure to the wound until emergency medical personnel arrived. The man was transported to St. Joseph Warren Hospital.

In an interview with officers, the man stated he had been drinking and could not provide details about the incident. Blood was found on the sidewalk, doorway, living room floor and kitchen, according to the report.

A woman identified as the man’s companion, told officers she had left to get food when he called her to report the stabbing.

The case remains under investigation.
