Two officers hospitalized following prison assault
LEAVITTSBURG — An assault at Trumbull Correctional Institution on Friday left two employees injured, a spokesperson confirmed.
JoEllen Smith, chief of communications for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, stated that both staff members were treated at a local hospital. One officer was released the same evening, while the other remains hospitalized in stable condition.
The inmate involved in the incident was immediately transferred to the Ohio State Penitentiary. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is leading the investigation.
