WHAT: Township trustees meeting March 11.
PRESENT: Mike Hovis, Mike Morelli and Bob McBride.
Trustees:
• Heard from Hovis the township has incurred $6,991 in legal fees and numerous administrative hours looking into and responding to public record requests and other inquiries since the county auditor’s office has failed to deposit tax money for the township.
• Reported the comprehensive plan update steering committee, which will meet again in April, will distribute a resident feedback survey to residents in late April.
• Accepted a $1,650 State Fire Marshal training reimbursement grant for training completed by firefighters in 2024.
• Announced the township park will open April 1 with the first event being the Easter egg hunt April 12.
• Announced a culvert is being replaced on Hoagland Blackstub Road between Prince Drive and state Route 305 with work being done by the county engineer’s office.
• Reported new automated external defibrillators are being installed at the township administration building, the park, and Bazetta-Cortland Optimist Club building.
• Accepted a $2,000 donation from Cortland Moose Lodge 1012 and a $500 donation from the Trumbull Moose Lodge 186 for purchase of safety coats and vests for the fire department.

Southington
WHAT: Township trustees meeting Wednesday
PRESENT: Charles Hagman, Cindy Speaker and Dan Tietz
Trustees:
• Announced improvements are expected to begin later this month on the township hall, road department and 1907 building using American Rescue Plan funds. KL Woodworking and Remodeling LLC of Southington was hired last month to do the three projects. The township hall work includes new flooring, ceiling and wall repair work, window replacement and interior painting at a cost not to exceed $25,000. The street department garage / storage building will have siding work on the garage door and trimming around the door at a cost of $15,000. Exterior maintenance, woodworking and painting also will be done on the 1907 building, which is a former school and is used by the township for storage. That price tag is $32,000.
• Heard from resident Don Strocvk of six historical banners needing replaced because of age and fading.
• Approved Midway Garage Doors at $1,500 to replace the garage door opener.
• Received a drop off improvement grant and Go Green grant, both from Geauga Trumbull Solid Waste Management District.
• Approved $800 for power steering pumps on the fire truck,
• Approved Garrett Anderson as a volunteer firefighter.
• Announced an Easter egg hunt 11 a.m. April 19 at the center.
• Announced because of the county engineer’s meeting at 6 p.m. April 9, the next trustees meeting was changed to 6 p.m. April 10.
• Set township cleanup day 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 3 and community plant sale 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 17.

Trumbull County
WHAT: Trumbull Career and Technical Center board meeting Thursday
The board:
• Approved an agreement with Pierce Farms to rent 46 acres of land for harvesting purposes. The agreement begins this spring for one year at a $500 fee to be paid before planting.
• Administered the oath of office to Ronda Bonekovic of Brookfield who was reappointed for a new term. She also was honored for serving two years as board president.
• Accepted the retirement resignation of Cynthia Goff, guidance secretary, effective June 1 with 40 years of service and Jennifer Saksa, custodian, effective July 1 with 30 years of service.
• Approved hirings of Alexandra DiDomenizo as school counselor at $67,053, Thomas Kornbau as school counselor at $52,347, Jennifer Zorrosa as intervention specialist at $67,063 and Miranda Dominao as intervention specialist at $58,638. All received one-year contracts.
• Heard from High School Director Paula Baco that 17 of 47 students in Business Professionals of America will compete in May at the national BPA competition in Florida.
• Approved Emily Cheeseman as an ASPIRE instructor at $23 per hour.
• Approved the equine program to compete March 21 and 22 at the Ohio State Fairgrounds in Columbus.
• Set community night for April 24 with the ribbon cutting for the equestrian center at 5:15 p.m.
• Set senior completion ceremony for 6:30 p.m. May 15 at Eastwood Field, with a rain date May 20.

Lordstown
WHAT: Board of education meeting Wednesday
PRESENT: Cheryl Kistler, Niki Reid, William Catlin, Rebekah Conn and Tracie Allen
The board:
• Heard from Superintendent Greg Bonamase that student lockers at the high school will be replaced this summer and parking lot improvements will be made in April to address flooding areas.
• Approved a five-year contract for elementary principal Rich Zigarovich effective Aug. 1 to July 31, 2030 at $106,153. He also handles special education programming duties.
• Approved waving of fees for usage of high school and elementary gyms by the Lordstown Baseball / Softball Association.
• Accepted a $2,000 donation in food form Foxconn for the elementary backpack program.
