WHAT: Township trustees meeting Monday

PRESENT: Bruce Bancroft, Jamin Banning and Greg Leonhard

Trustees:

• Will seek a scrap tire grant of $1,679 with plans for a scrap tire collection 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 17 at township garage for Kinsman residents only. There will be a limit of eight tires per household with tires needing to be off rims. Leonhard said any tire over eight is $4 per tire, truck tires are $20 per tire, and tractor and farm tires are $25 per tire.

• Heard from Leonhard trustees are seeking solar flashing lights near the crosswalk south of the township center for people who cross the road to get to the physical therapy office.

• Approved Tim Tricker as a full-time road department worker at $24 per hour effective Monday.

• Reported the fire department is seeking a $620,000 grant for a fire truck and also a $20,000 Federal Emergency Management Agency grant.

• Reported the greenspace area in the park will have benches added this month and lighting in June, with the Kinsman park committee donating $152 for the lights,

• Set mosquito spraying with Alexander Pest Control for May 7, June 4, July 2, Aug. 12 and Sept. 10. Trustees sought a grant for the service and noted the Friends of Kinsman helped cover costs last year.

Girard

WHAT: City council meeting Monday.

PRESENT: Reynald Paolone, Thomas Grumley, Jeff Kay, Keith Schubert, Lily Martuccio, John Moliterno, Sam Zirafi and Mayor Mark Zuppo.

ABSENT: Mark Standohar.

Council:

• Heard from Safety-Service Director Mark Ragozine of plans to advertise for bids for the waterline replacement on Mosier Road, which is an Ohio Public Works Commission project to be done this summer.

• Presented the “Willie Constantino Employee of the Month Award” to Ashley Alejars of the water department and Tom Watts of the street department.

• Heard from fire Chief James Petruzzi the fire department received help from Bristol Fire Department, which let them borrow an ambulance recently while one of Girard’s vehicles was being worked on for electrical issues. He said this allowed Girard to continue its service.

• Approved applying for impacted city status with the Ohio Department of Development, which would allow the city to create or preserve jobs and employment opportunities and improve the economic welfare of residents. It also would allow city officials to hold real estate for use or development of industry, commerce, housing or distribution.

• Set a meeting at 6:30 p.m. March 24 to review city finances.
