Hubbard Township police chief interviews underway
HUBBARD TOWNSHIP — Trustees closed applications for their open police chief position and kicked off interviews earlier this week.
Trustee Jason Tedrow reported earlier this month that they received 11 applications for the position in the near month they had advertised for it, and that they were going to check in with their legal counsel to decide how to proceed and begin scheduling interviews.
Tedrow explained Wednesday that their attorney said they “absolutely” were allowed to narrow down the candidates for their interviewing process.
“We narrowed it down to four to start interviews with; we’re going with a lot of people we don’t know,” Tedrow said. “At this point we’re not going to say we’re not going to potentially look at someone else, it’s just going to depend on how those four interviews go.”
Trustee William Colletta explained the interviews are being planned around work schedules, with the final one set to be done Monday. All of them will be done in executive session.
“Each of the trustees are asking the candidate questions pertaining to what we feel are the most important things for the township,” Colletta said. “Perspective on things such as safety, their skills in the position, their coaching ability for younger police officers and their community involvement — their perception on it.”
Colletta said once the interviews are done, they’ll meet and try and decide which one they like the best. He did not rule out a second interview for one or two of them based on how things go.
Colletta said they hope to come to a decision by next week.
